Chose this hotel after reading previous reviews and for location appeared to be the cheapest. Location was great and was given a lake view room after requesting one. Staff were helpful when I asked them if they could book an airport transfer using the public Alibus. Room was basic, but fine. Breakfast disappointing - no fresh fruit or toaster, but managed with cereal, croissants and cakes. Stayed for 3 nights in Sept 08 - weather sunny but cooler than expected - Stresa is a lovely place, but Cannobio and Pallanza looked lovely too and more traditional. Lots of coach tours arrive in Stresa during the day, but leave by 6pm. You must visit Isola Bella - ferry cheaper from Stresa Lido by the cable car than main ferry terminal. Villa Taranto by Pallanza looks lovely too, but no time to visit.

This was our first visit. The hotel is very conveniently placed for the pier with its steamers and the town centre. The drawback was that our room, requested to have a view, was actually sideways on. We could see the lake, fine, but in the square below was a bar which played music over an outside loudspeaker until 11.30 every evening. The hotel did move us to a room on the front, which was quieter, but since it was on the first floor, the lake view was lost behind the lakeside trees. You should also be aware that there is no service before 7 am (front door locked? - we didn't check) and breakfast is officially from 7.30, although they were good and fed us earlier so that we could take our 7.15 taxi to the station.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Very central especially as beside ferry dock for access around the lake. Stresa is a lovely place to stay with plenty of nice restaurants and this hotel is a good base for that. However our room faced the street which had traffic on it all night as a result rooms a little noisy. Really enjoyed our stay. Had to pay for public car paking which cost €6.50 a day.

THE HOTEL HAS FRONT AND SIDE ROOMS FACING THE LAKE, BUT WE WERE GIVEN A ROOM FACING THE REAR (NO VIEW AT ALL), EVEN THOUGH THE HOTEL WAS NO WHERE NEAR CAPACITY. (MOST OF THE KEYS WERE STILL HANGING AT ALL TIMES). BECAUSE WE WERE STAYING FOR 3 NIGHTS, WE ASKED TO BE MOVED AND WERE TOLD THERE WERE NO OTHER ROOMS AVAILABLE. IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING WITH A COMPUTER OR CELL PHONE AND WANT TO CHARGE BATTERIES, FORGET IT. THERE ARE NO OUTLETS IN THE ROOM. ONLY ON ONE DAY DID WE RECEIVE GLASSES (PLASTIC) AND HAD TO GET OUR OWN, AND THE TOWELS WERE OF THE DISH RAG TYPE. WE HAD A MINI-BAR CABINET WITH NO MINI-BAR IN IT AND THE INTERNET WAS AVAILABLE FOR 5 EUROS PER USE. BREAKFAST WAS AVERAGE. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LOOK ELSWHERE, AS THE HOTEL IS OVER-PRICED FOR THE COST CHARGED. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS IN THE CLOSE BY AREA.

economic hotel, good price, but very old hotel. From other hand, eveything was working but surely the hotel needs refreshing, we had a view for another building, and on the 3rd floor we had to walk as the lift gets only to the 1st floor :-(. additionally - very basic breakfast, even no fresh croissants...

Excellent location, directly across the street from the Ferry's that connect Stresa with other villages along Lago Maggiore. Hospital staff very accomodating and the room-for the price-was spacious and very quiet. Hotel provided a fan to help cool the room. Please note that the hotel does NOT have air conditioning, yet, in all but the hottest of months, it is a very cool and comfortable hotel. Highly recommend.

The two rooms we stayed in were clean and spacious. The breakfast is standard European with bread, cold cuts and cheese, yogurt and fruit and capuccinos made to order (Yummy!). The staff was friendly and very helpful with all of our questions. Unfortunately the building next door began construction every morning at 7.00 am. But overall we were satisfied with our stay.

We were very pleased with the Hotel. Simone did a super job having our breakfast ready the day we were leaving (it was before the normal serving time). We would stay @ this hotel again. The only problem was there was only public parking avaiable , but it was off season so we parked for free about 75 meters away from the hotel. The breakfast was a good eurpeaon breakfast.

We had a wonderful stay here. The location, right across from the boat dock with views of the lake, was perfect. It was fun to have breakfast in the room with big windows right on the sidewalk--fun to watch the passersby and see the lake. Staff was helpful and kind; breakfast was very good. The room was comfortable and clean but very small, basic and sparsely furnished. However, it was adequate for our needs given that we spent little time in the room What is perfect also is the location, not just close to the lake but behind the hotel is the town: all sorts of souvenir and food shops, restaurants and "real" shops too--I needed an adapter for my camera battery charger and it was just a 2 minute walk to a camera store. Fun to wander the little walkways and streets and window shop. Another real plus is that right next door is a travel agency with an English speaking woman who was extremely helpful and from whom we bought all our train tickets for the entire trip, saving time and crowds in train stations.

Excellent hotel for touring Lako Maggiore and thereabout. Hotel just across street from the boat landings. Do not fall for the individual boat operators "taxi" service, get a ticket for the lake boat at the main ticket center. Parking is across street in the city lot. Discount for all day parking can be obtained from the hotel staff.

Handy location just 5 minutes out of town, in a quiet side street. The church bells at 7.30am were the only drawback - there was no way you could sleep through them! I would recommend it and would stay there again.

This hotel is reasonably good and cheap considering that the area is quite expensive. However, it can be loud at night (especially if staying at the back of the hotel) and the breakfast is somewhat disappointing. Also, you need to be back by 1 am when the hotel closes. Otherwise, rooms are clean and large and the hotel is centrally located.

The notice displayed in the breakfast room was, I felt a little unnecessary. Basically it said that you're quite welcome to eat in the hotel but anyone found taking food out would be charged for it, Not that I wanted to do this but felt it was a threat. The choice at breakfast was very limited, as I have special needs and can't eat suger there was basically nothing I could eat, therefore took my own.

This hotel is in a good position in central Stresa, opposite the lake. The reception staff are efficient but could be a little more cheerful and welcoming! Visitors should beware of ticket touts operating from a small booth near to the official ferry ticket office. We unfortunately bought tickets for this privately-run ferry service to Isola Bella. The prices were not properly explained and we paid more than twice as much as the official public ferry, which only takes a few minutes. Isola Bella and the villa are a must-see, as is the Alpine Garden at Alpina along the road to Baveno. Not easy to find but well worth the trouble!

I reserved this room months in advance & asked for lake view. I had to step on balcony to see the lake. The wood floors were very dirty. I had to wear socks (and not go barefoot) and my socks were filthy. The shower was terrible; the curtain kept clinging to my body and it was a constant battle to shower. Worst of all was the noise (walls were tissue thin); I could hear every word spoken in the room next door (including their sexual activity). I had to buy ear plugs. This should be rated one star and nothing more. Absolutely awful!!!!!

I was very disappointed in my 3 night stay. I requested a quiet room with a view well in advance and ended up with the noisiest room I've ever stayed in and a dismal view of a wall! I was woken each night between 11.30 and 12.30 from adjacent restaurant noise, staff yelling, the kitchen clean up and worst of all the empty bottles being thrown into a skip bin. It was like living next to a garbage tip! I asked the manager if I could change to a room with a view and he told me the hotel was fully booked and I later saw a vacancies sign in the window. To top it all off, he said my credit card did not work and I had to pay my account in cash! Minutes later at another shop, my credit card miraculously was working again!

Average 3 star hotel. Noisy because of traffic on road immediately outside but excellent views of the lake. That hotel is worst in the world! I have been 57 countries on my business or sightseeing,I don't know such a terrible hotel as "Italie et Suisse",therefore I canceled the second day. That is un ugly experience for me. Room is worse than a room for slave-narrow,close,dirty,inconvenient,unhandiness, facing the dark alley and viewless for the lake. Exceedinly " No hospitality " - Whole staffs were no smiling, unkind, stingy, inattentive-like usuries. They have never attended " customers " - turned off the elevator power and lights of passage! ,no assistance to carring my big suitscase, and never grant my request. I was so surprised that is 3 stars hotel in Italy. Don't wash your dirty linen in public. As I was very uncomfortable about it,in no mood to write the answer to your e-mail when I returned to my country.

The hotel staff were very polite and our room was kept immaculate. Although there was some noise at night from the bar next door (live music most nights), this did not particularly bother us although I think it may bother some guests. I think for the price that we paid the hotel represented good value for money and the only thing that I would like to see change is the choice of food at breakfast. Although the breakfast is a buffet and guests can eat as much as they want I am used to having a much greater choice of food available than provided in this hotel.

Very clean & excellent location. The staff were courteous & friendly. You get what you pay for. The other hotels in the lake front are much more expensive but this is probably because they have a mini fridge, radio, tea and coffee making facilities in their rooms and a better choice for breakfast. If all you want is a place to sleep at night then this is probably OK. If you want a sense of romance or luxury or just normal hotel facilities then a different hotel is a better choice. All in all good value (The other hotels are very much more expensive)

This hotel was very nice and very conveniently located. The dock to catch the water bus to the various islands in Lake Maggiore is directly across the street. Much of the town with various shops and restaurants was within easy walking distance of the hotel. Our room was in the front of the building and had a balcony overlooking the lake. We spent time each day just hanging out and enjoying the view. Breakfast here was better than in most hotels we stayed at in Italy. Cereal, fruit, milk, yoghurt, meat and cheese was available every morning. While we all enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again there is one thing we should mention. The hotel is right next to an open plaza in front of a coffee shop. This is very convenient for coffee but at night there is live music in the plaza. Our room was not on that side of the hotel so the sound was very faint and not at all a problem. However, the members of our group who had rooms with windows that opened directly onto the plaza were not so lucky. You might want to specify that you do not want a room overlooking the plaza if music in the evening is not what you want.

Unfortunately we had to check out after only 2 days - The weather was unusually hot and there was no air conditioning in the bedroom ( which was also very noisy due to entertainment at adjacent cafe). We changed to another hotel which had air conditioned rooms.

The hotel is based in prime position overlooking the lake, and is very close to the local restaurants. It is based directly next to a bar that has easy listening live music until around 23:00. This can be quite noisy if your room looks over that side. We were quite lucky in that respect. The breakfasts were superb value, allowing you to eat as much as you could, with a choice of Cereal, Croissants, Hams, and Cheese. We were very happy here during our stay, and would recommend it.

Helpful friendly service; great location on lakefront. Internet available for EUR 5 a hour. A move from an okay back room to the front (room 2) with four balconies over looking the lake made the stay incredibly special. Whilst this is definitely 'tourist class' rather than luxury, the hotel can't be faulted in terms of value for money. Coped with 2 gay men (and a request for a double bed rather than two singles) impeccably!
