hotel outside Gran Hotel La Florida is a Noucentista style building in Northern Barcelona. The property is surrounded by its gardens and the natural vegetation of the Collserola Park. In 2001 the Gran Hotel La Florida was rescued from abandonment and completely refurbished, the antique decorative and structural elements of the old hotel were recuperated and the the natural environment was respected. The Hotel Florida was inaugurated in 1925 and was the realization of oÂne man's dream, Dr. Andreu, who wanted to build Barcelona's best hotel in Barcelona's best location. The splendor, however, was not to last long. Like so many other things in Spanish life, the civil war took its toll oÂn the hotel when it was used as a military hospital. Again mirroring Spanish society, from that point oÂn the history of the building is a long and arduous oÂne. Over the years the hotel passed from hand to hand, with differing levels of success. During the 1950's Hotel La Florida was the place of choice for Barcelona's high society serving mainly as a summer residence for wealthy Catalan families and was the unofficial hotel of Barcelona's football club. Over the years Ernest Hemingway, James Stewart, George Sanders, Rock Hudson, Princess Fabiola and the Prince of Belgium stayed in this prestigious hotel. One of the most unique aspects of the Gran Hotel La Florida is its perfect synthesis of tradition and modernity, the work of artisans combined with new technologies and materials. Within La Florida wrought iron and antique carpentry blend easily with stainless steel and glass. Moreover, the hotel features a large array of on-site facilities such as a restaurant, the Lobby Lounge Bar, the Miramar Bar with live chill-out music on the pool bar terrace, a beauty centre, health and spa facilities, gym and hairdresser among others.

double room deluxe The hotel features deluxe rooms with sea views, terrace rooms with garden and sea views, junior suites, junior suites with sea views, design suites and superior rooms. All of the rooms and suites feature private bathroom and are equipped with individually controlled air conditioning, direct dial telephone, desk, laptop electronic safe, Wi-Fi/ADSL Internet connection, mini bar, satellite TV, piped music and heating. Many rooms have balcony or terrace, while others have panoramic windows overlooking the city or the Sant Cugat valley. Non-smoking and disabled accessible rooms are available upon request. Cots and ironing facilities are also available.
A breakfast buffet is served daily from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the restaurant.Breakfast can also be served directly in the rooms.

The hotel was excellent in most respects. The only slight downside was that food and drinks were particularly expensive. Whilst you'd expect that prices in this particular standard of hotel would not be cheap we found it to be the more expensive than similar hotels we have stayed in before. That said we would still return to the hotel as the standard of accommodation was excellent, the views spectacular and the staff could not do enough to help but we would eat out!

Deluxe Room Deluxe rooms range from 23 to 25 sqm in-size, are luminous and overlook Barcelona and the Mediterranean Sea. These rooms feature big windows and are decorated in Art Nouveau style.
Miramar Bar The Miramar Bar is located outside, with marvellous views over Barcelona and next to the 37 metre long swimming-pool. Here not only the guests, but also the local people can enjoy fresh salads, light dishes and refreshing drinks during the day. At night, one can sip long drinks and exotic cocktails. During the summer months, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays you will be delighted by ambient lounge music on the terraces with DJ Monsieur Pamplemousse. Chill-out on terraces from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
