This was nice clean, quite basic accommodation, which was good value for money. Breakfast and afternoon tea were very good. The location was good we could get a bus or metro to most areas we wanted to go.

I needed a place for one night before a weeks stay at a nearby timeshare hotel. Couldn't afford a lot, and needed to walk to next hotel. Found this on Venere and decided to take a chance even though "down the hall bathroom" was new to me. Had a super friendly greating by Richard and was allowed early check in. Some guest appeared immediately and retrieved my heavy luggage and made it appear outside my third floor door. Loved the decor of the room, and size was perfect as well as bed comfort. There was noise while I was sleeping, but the inside corridors were quiet even while those on my floor were padding down the hall to WC's. I really enjoyed afternoon tea/cookies and a.m. breakfast with a mix of chatty guests (or was it MOI???). After a quick morning checkout, I was able to schlep my luggage to next hotel. My overall decision was I would RATHER be at Hayes Valley Inn, instead of my "ritzy" timeshare and WILL definitely stay at Hayes Valley again. It is a super location in a delightful neighborhood.

Overall a nice friendly hotel that has a interesting quirkiness about it which makes it very different to bog standard chain hotels. The shared bathrooms is manageable and the small breakfast room creates a nice ice breaker with other guests. The walls are rather thin and traffic noise is apparent but its location means the downtown areas are walkable and bus/ tram routes are also close by. There's a nice bar just over the road as well.

This would be an excellent place for young travelers to meet one another. You won't find a better value in San Francisco. All bathrooms are shared but clean--more of a problem for us old timers than for youngsters. There is almost NO parking in the area. Better for people without a car. There is a public garage practically next door, but they will not do overnight parking on Fri or Sat nights since they might not open until 5:00 PM on Sat and Sunday.

I felt almost at home at the Hayes Valley Inn! Enjoyed the continental breakfast in a homey kitchen. The staff is very friendly and we had a very nice and comfortable queen bed! If you don't mind sharing the bathroom (meaning you may have to wait your turn to take your shower in the morning), go at the Hayes next time you visit San Francisco!

Everything was perfect and beyond our expectations. The Inn, the staff, the location, the price! We loved every minute there from beginning to end. It was like a home away from home. We can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was...really! Man, what a lucky break for anyone travelling to San Francisco on the cheap!

We had some problems: rooms didn't have bathroom (it was not especified) and the final value was higher than one booked in Internet. We had to pay more money.

The hotel is at least 5 to 6 blocks away from Civic Center station. Almost can't find the little entrance (door) to the hotel. It's just a small door amid a row of shops/resturants. The office/check-in is on the 2nd floor. Staffs are friendly. The common toilet and bathroom is small, ie it can only fit 1 person at a time. There is no washing basin in the toilet, only standing room. You've to wash your hands in your own room. Overall, decent room at a convenient location at a decent price.
