A very nice 4 star hotel in a really lovely city. The rooms are fairly standard but very clean. They do lack tea/coffee making facilities though. The general facilities are very good and include excellent leisure facilities. The breakfast which is included in the price is as good as any we have had in Europe. The hotel is a couple of miles outside the centre of the city in a quiet but perfectly safe area. It is only 100 metres from the metro though. The restaurant directly opposite the hotel offers lovely food at outstanding prices. The only real negative about the hotel is the staff on reception. They are not very friendly and English is only spoken at a basic level.

We stayed in Vila Gale, Porto for 2 nights in Sept 08 before moving onto an apartment near the sea. Our flight was delayed, so we didn't arrive until near midnight, but the front desk didn't bat an eyelid and were cheerful and helpful. Rooms are clean and spacious, the only thing we can gripe about is that the sign for our room, 616, was pointing the wrong way down the corridor out of the lifts. Breakfast very good, allbeit with the typical thin streaky bacon, mini-frankfurters and scrambled egg as the cooked option. We would definitely return again to this hotel if we wanted to stay actually in Porto city.

Our first visit to Porto, but hopefully not the last. The Hotel represents excellent value for money in terms of quality, facilities and central position. The full breakfast offered was also superb value. Although the leisure facilities, which included swimming pool, sauna, turkish steam room, jaccuzzi etc, massage and exercise facilities, are extra, we found the charges (17 euros for 3 three days, massage extra) were very reasonable in respect of Hotel costs. First time we had used Venere and certainly not the last, as our 4 night stay including full breakfast, cost only £190 (256 euros)& payable when leaving. We also enjoyed the quality live music bands in the Blues & Soul Bar in the evening (mainly blues/modern jazz). Would definately recommend the small typical Portugese family run restaurant directly opposite the hotel,(English spoken) superb quality, daily specials, freshly cooked to order, great value 3 course incl. wine, all for approx. £12.00 per head, be warned it does get very busy. Would also recommend the complete 3 Tour Open Topped Bus package which also includes, boat trip & entrance to port caves (includes free samples), plus any local bus service usage, to get a real overview of what Porto has to offer, all for 17 euros, what value!!! Use the very convenient & modern Metro, to & from the Airport, within 100 metres of hotel, very convenient & inexpensive. So if your looking for a 'Bargain City Break' that represents great value for money & with low cost airlines, Porto has to be 'HIGH' on your list of places to visit. *****

We were first time in Porto and fully enjoyed it. We got our room in 12 (non-smoking) floor with wonderful views over the city. The romm wasn't very spacious but comfortable enough. As a couple we could get a double bed instead of twin, but it was not as much disturbing as hard bed conveyors (wooden boards), which made our beds quite hard. Maybe somebody likes it, we didn't. The restaurant close to the hotel ( across the street) is really worth of money and very recommendable (good food, nice wine, very good service and good prices). Breakfast buffet was very good. Hotel is close to the metro station, about 200 meters with direct connection to the airport. Very easy access to the city shopping center, about 10 minutes walk. Taken all together - very enjoyable stay!

First time in Porto and really enjoyed it. We were first placed on the non-smoking floor but the room stank of smoke. We were immediately moved to a much nicer room. The restaurant across the road is excellent. The hotel has a nice pool and reasonable gym area which costs €7 per day. Breakfast was very good. Hotel is close to the metro station. A very relaxing stay.

excellent value for money the service and the breakfast are really good value. the hotel is only 2 minutes from the nearest metro station with a direct link to the airport, the city has a first class public transport network and the portugese people are very friendly.

We came for the football. Train line right near hotel and a good location and excellant value for both hotel and City itself. Nice bar and breakfast and if we came to Porto again would definately use this hotel

Very good hotel helpfull staff good breakfast plenty of choice would stay at this hotel again excellant value for money. The only down side i was with my 2 year old grandaughter and i had to pay for the uses of the swimming pool 7 euros but putting that aside overall we had a good stay at this hotel.

I was very surprised at the quality of the hotel for the price we had paid.The breakfast buffet included in the price was one of the best I have ever had. Located next to the metro, which is only two stops from the train station allowing us to go on daily trips and explore the area. The buses were close by and the hotel was slightly out of the centre - a 15 mins walk past shops/churches - which suited us. The restaurant had an evening dish of the day and we chose to go in when there was a fish dish which appealed to us only to find that this was also included in the nightly buffet which at 12 euro's was good value although a slightly stewed version. Very friendly staff all good English speaking.

My only complaint: I made an appointment in the health club directly (in person) with the actual massage therapist. The following morning I showed up at the health club up on the 19th floor, only to find NO ONE there! The club was closed, and I waited for 20 minutes expecting the massage therapist to arrive. He did not. He clearly flaked, and left no message for me at Reception. It ruined my morning plans and I departed the hotel on a sour note.

The accommodation does compare with the international standard, as far as i can tell, and there is a good price-quality relation. I am very content with the help of the staff at the desk.
