I would recommend this hotel for travellers. It has a relaxed atmosphere and the staff are competent. I as in Castiglioncello for business but the hotel is well placed for the holiday business.

Unfortunately for the Hotel Leopoldo our impressions were coloured by our disappointment with Castiglioncello after the fabulous places we had vistited during the day. The sea-side town seemed characterless after being in Sienna, Monteriggioni and Volterra earlier in the day. The hotel was also very ordinary and felt overpriced having being staying in Palazzos in the Castellina and Montepulciano. But having said that(and trying to judge it on it's own merits)the Leopoldo is a nice looking hotel on a quiet street. It has it's own limited parking, the receptionist was welcoming (and expecting us! - I was worried because when I tried to book the hotel directly they would only take a 3 night stay, but through Venere they had accepted the one night booking). The public areas are a bit limited, the reception desk is in the hall, but there is a lift. The rooms are small and quite dated, it has old-fashioned sea-side written all over it, with flowery covers and lace frills. But we were only there for one night, it was clean, the bathroom and shower were fine, the bed was large, there was air-conditioning and it was quiet. Drinks were available via reception. but limited as you could basically have bottled beer/soft drinks. I think there was only outside to sit, but they brought little snacks which was nice. Breakfast was in a very frilly but bright and airy room at the back and was the basic fare that we had come to expect in Italy, but there was fresh fruit which we didn't get everywhere. Coffee was made for you, but we didn't get offered another cup, but to be fair we didn't ask either, so it may have been available. On the whole the hotel was fine and served it's purpose, but you couldn't rave about it. Castiglioncello was disappointing, and although we had a pleasant, reasonably priced meal at a little trattoria on the main street, I can't say I'd go back. You can see the oil refinery from the beach near the hotel!

Hotel Leopoldo enjoys a central location indeed in the charming town of Castiglioncello - everything being within walking distance. It is ideally situated in a rather quiet street without any traffic noise. The hotel staff - and particularly Roberto, the hotel manager - was very friendly and service minded, giving us all the information and advice we needed on what to see, beaches, shops, restaurants, transport etc. No language problems if you do not speak Italian: You can get on very well with both French and English. Breakfast, which was served in the pleasant little garden restaurant - was good. We also enjoyed dinner of really good quality there. As for beaches within walking distance there are a few (rather small) sand beaches, and quite a few stretches of rocks where it is possible to go swimming. Unlike all other European countries Italy has a very large number of private beaches (which are normally quite expensive). In Castiglioncello almost all the beaches are private, whereas public beaches are almost non-existent. A much better choice then is to go by car (or public transport) a few kilometres south on the coast to the famous "white beaches" (spiaggie bianche): A lovely and really long public beach of the whitest posible sand. A very popular option of course, but it is so big that there is no risk it will be crowded. The town itself has large, shaded parks and charming seaside walks. A good choice if you are looking for a nice little seaside town for a holiday stay in Toscana!

Quite a small room but clean, adequately furnished and with good air-conditioning. The staff were very helpful - particularly in relation to parking, which could be a problem in the vicinity of the hotel. Within very easy reach of the sea front on foot.
A very nice location, and a very nice hotel. Our room was quite small, but OK for a short stay. Breakfast was delightful, sitting in the garden - a good selection. Locally many good restaurants, and the walk to the sea is only 100 metres or so.

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights in June and it was perfect! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the hotel was a 1 minute walk from a small but nice public beach. The room wasn't huge but was perfectly adequate and the sea view was delightful. Would recommend to anyone!

The location of the hotel was very convenient and the employess very welcoming and gracious. The breakfast buffet was very good. The only suggestion I would make is to replace the heavy wooden furniture and frilly fixtures to make the rooms feel more spacious. They need underbed space to store the luggage.
We had a nice stay at that location. Rooms were clean and tidy. Breakfast was in the Italian style but sufficient. The staff was very helpful in giving us suggestions to improve our stay.

a great choice of hotel in a lovely italian seaside town. everyone at the hotel was very friendly, and able to assist in obtaining tourist information for the surrounding area. the breakfast was very good and it was a very short walk (75 metres) to the lovely beach. a special thank you to Fernando for his assistance and to Valentina for her kindness and lovely smile.
We can recomend this hotel to all travelers. It is not the most modern you can find, but it is rather romantic. It lies near both the ocean and town centre. In summer you eat breakfast outside in the garden, and in the evening there is a restaurant here with good food. The staff is very helpfull and hospitable.

Nice hotel with extremely friendly employees. Especially Roberto, the Hotel Manager who speaks good French and English too, always does his outmost to be of any help. You want some advise about which beach you should go to, about cosy, interesting villages/cities one should see, about fine restaurants in the neighbourhood, about child friendly excursions etc etc? Ask Roberto! We would like to thank him for all the effort and advise during our pleasant stay at the Hotel Leopoldo this summer.
We enjoyed the town of Castiglioncello very much, we were some of the only American tourists there, but everyone was very nice and the town was charming and unspoiled. The hotel manager was very nice and helpful, giving us useful info on where everything in town was. The town was a very small place, but that is part of its charm. I got last minute reservations here as a hotel in Folinica cancelled our reservation unexpectedly. The whole experience was lovely. Beaches have to be paid for, which is the European way. The hotel had a nice small balcony on the room from which we could see the coast. The shower was very small and the quad was two small rooms with no common area, but otherwise it worked out fine.
5.4
The hotel has great surroundings but the quality does not justify the price. Air conditioning was barely functioning and the breakfast poor with stale ham and milk.
9.2
The Leopoldo exceeded our expectations in almost every way. We thought it was a great deal for 100 Euros. The bathroom was larger than we'd expected. The staff was great: the gent on duty when we checked out spoke excellent English and allowed us to check out late, which was great because we wanted to spend more time walking around the cute town, checking out the beach walk (100 m from the hotel) during the day and going to the public beach (approx. 300 m from the hotel). If we were to return to the same area with the same budget, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Leopoldo again. We didn't take advantage of it, but there is a lovely sitting area in front of the hotel, which I believe is a bar during the high tourist season. Also, we got to watch MTV Italia in our room, which was a good way to get a sense of Italian pop culture while we were relaxing in our room. Two thumbs up!

We enjoyed the stay very much. The location is fantasitic. The dinner is excellent and reasonable. But we could not use the parking lot. It was difficult to find the hotel. The raod is very complicated there. I feel the price is a bit too expensive.
The property's car park offers 6 car spaces available on a first come, first served basis. However free street parking is also available.
