HOTEL OVERVIEW
hotel outside The Hotel Monte del Re is located in the middle of a park in Dozza, about 35 km from the centre of Bologna. It is hosted by an ancient monastery-castle from the 13th century.
The elegant furnishings, combined with the architecture and the historic prestige, turns this complex into a point of reference for a refined and demanding clientel, that loves to choose places with a historic and artistic value.

In the parish territory of San Lorenzo di Piscerano, on an idyllic hill crowned with cypress trees, the small Monastery of the Minor Friars of Monte del Re was established in the 13th century and lasted for over five hundred years.
It was certainly due to the mystical atmosphere that Monte del Re was called the 'paradise hill' in that period.
Unfortunately we do not know the exact year the Monastery was founded, because of the disappearal of the archives, undoubtedly during the napoleonic era when monastic orders were suppressed. Historic research leads us to believe that it was built immediately after San Francisco d'Assisi had visited Imola and the convent, around 1213.
It was purchased by Count Sassatelli, who turned it into his 'country residence'. After that the Monastery passed through several hands before it was permanently occupied by the Imola Seminarians until 1969.
