A nice and comfortable hotel, a short walk from the archeological site at Pompeii. There's a fantastic information office nearby too (near the Piazza) with very helpful staff and a lot of information about Pompeii, Capri and great Campania. The service provided by the staff at Hotel Diana was exceptional - the day we were due to leave Pompeii, a public transport strike had been called. We were concerned about making it to our next destination on time, and when we expressed this to the staff they offered to take us to our train station at no extra charge! Amazing.

I would highly recommend Hotel Diana Pompei to anyone looking for a spotlessly clean, friendly and moderately priced place to stay in Pompei. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. If you have a car at your disposal this location would be a perfect base to explore not only Pompei but also Vesuvius, the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento and even Capri. We found Pompei to be a clean, vibrant city with reasonably priced restaurants and bars (as long as one stays away from the touristy places near the ruins).

This place is terrific in terms of location. The hosts are friendly and very helpful to point out the different sites to see and making arrangements for tours to the Amalfi coast. Our only problem was not knowing what FFSN meant when we got off in Naples and no one else knew so we took a local train which left us in the center of town, not far but without directions from that train to the hotel we went in a large circle and finally called the hotel for assistance. They steered us right to them.

Only criticism is that the reception staff were not aware of the European Culture Weekend and sold us a Arte Card whereas entrance was free on 2 of the 3 days.

The hotel is close to the main train station and a short walk to the Cathedral and the ruins of Pompei. But, it was staff who really made the stay memorable - they couldn't do enough for us, from putting our food (and beer) in the kitchen refrigerator to looking up train times and museum opening times for the Archeological Museum in Naples. They all (especially Nadia) greeted us with a smile and hello every time we came in the door or down the stairs and really made us feel that we were very welcome guests.

The staff was extremely helpfull and took care of all of our needs. They all spoke very good english and gave us a map and great directions to ever place we wanted to go. They also suggested some great sopts to check out as well as resturants. It is extremely close to 2 railway stations and walking distance to the ruins. I would highly recommend it for the price.

The Diana was a great pleasure! Nice room, nice garden for breakfast and above all, centrally located in the town and staffed by extermely attentive and knowledgable young women at the front desk. The front desk help went above and beyond the call to make us welcome. The young woman who checked us in at 8 PM quickly arranged for a contact at a nice local restaurant to come meet us and drive us to dinner. The young woman who was working at the desk the following morning arranged complementary tickets to visit the ruins in the day and attend the sound and light show there (the last of the season) that evening. In addition, as we were traveling to Pompei from a week at a cottage in Sicily and had some local cheese and vegetables with us, they put these in their refrigerator and prepared them for us as an accompaniment to the hotel's own buffet breakfast! The Diana is a family operation, and they treated us like family too. Well done!!!

Lovely bright clean small hotel. Staff were very helpful and spoke good english.Breakfast nice but limited. Fresh capuchino/ hot chocolate/ coffee provided to order. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Pompeii seemed rather run down, but the hotel was a little oasis where we cold leave our hire car under the garden trees while spending the day at the ruins.Very close to the station, but a good twenty minutes walk to the main ruins entrance where the audio guides are. Pompeii is massive. Also cafe inside was closed - NO REFRESHMENTS INSIDE AT ALL except drinking water taps. Thank goodness for an enterprising adjoining cafe who had cut a hole in the wire fence near the House of the Mysteries and who did not overcharge either!

Excellent location. 2 min. walk from train station, 15 min. walk to archeological site, large selection of restaurants and cafes within a 5 min. walk. Hotel is clean, lots of marble used in decor. Rooms are a bit small, but are bright, clean with comfortable beds and air conditioning. Bathroom was nicely decorated and very clean. Staff of this small, family-run hotel was very friendly and helpful at all times. They helped us figure out the many options available to get to and climb Mt. Vesuvius. Breakfast buffet was a bit limited in selection, but food was very good. Note - esp. to families with children - even with help of hotel staff, our search for a place to do laundry was unsuccessful. There may be one place, but it was closed for vacation - try to arrive with clean clothes. Also, BEWARE OF THE STRAY DOGS. My 10 year old daughter was bitten by one as we climbed Mt. Vesuvius. We met a young boy on the climb who had also been bitten and required a trip to the hospital. There are stray dogs everywhere in the area and they appear docile but as we learned, sometimes are not.

The service recieved at Diana Pompeii was the best during our 2 week holiday in Italy. We reached the hotel quite tired after a day of sight seeing in Rome and travelling by train to Naples and then Pompeii (the Naples train station is a bit confusing, so rather ask than rely on notices). However, our welcome at Diana Pompei was so friendly and welcoming we felt better. The staff are very friendly with recommending good restaurants, so if you are in the mood for some really good food or even good pizza or a light meals make record of the restaurants or pizzerias recommended. The hotel is close to the train station (50 m) but we were not distrubed by the noise. The hotel is also walking distance to the ruins. The rooms are clean and the hotel is quite modern. A wonderful place.

The Hotel Diana was one of the loveliest places we stayed on our rcent trip to Italy. The owners and staff are warm and welcoming, and a mine of information on ANYTHING you want to know about the local area. The availability of freshly made coffee throughout the day, and the charming terrace in the garden, surrounded by orange trees was fantastic. You can also buy dinner makings and eat them here. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Pompei and the Diana was a home away from home. I would recommend staying here if you are looking for somewhere away from the frenetic activity that is Naples. The hotel is located in a little side street a matter of metres from the main rail station - so convenient for excursions to many places, and very quiet at night.

VERY convenient for a Pompeii site visit. Our stay also allowed easy access to day trips to the Amalfi coast due to the easy access to the local train (train to Sorrento catching a bus or ferry to Positano/Amalfi). This offered an excellent way to enjoy the water, see the coast, and have lunch/dinner in the coastal towns. Good restaurants in Pompeii at a good price. Very friendly staff eager to please with helpful hints to enhance your vacation. Beautiful quiet garden in back among orange trees provided a restful place for drinks and cards after our day trips. Rooms were adequate size for two, with good storage, a smallish bathroom and a small shower. Rooms were nicely furnished and very quiet and clean. We recommend this over day trips from Naples any time, and we would stay here again.

I loved this hôtel. It was very well situated, modern, colorfull and the staff was very pleasant. It is near the archeological site and if I had a advice to give, it would be to try and stay at this hôtel for a few days, while you visit the surroundings (Vésuve, Pompei site, Herculanum site, Napoli, Sorrento, Capri). The hôtel is situated at a 30 seconds walk from the train station and it is very easy to reach all these cities and sites by train from there.

We were on our honeymoon and arrived in our super-clean room to find a homemade card, a red rose, and some sweets. A lovely touch! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the little orange orchard outside was a pretty place to sit for breakfast. The hotel is very close to the train station, which was handy, and also within walking distance of one of the entrances to the ruins (there are several; only one has the audioguide for rent - the Porta Marina). By the way, if you want to see the plaster casts of the bodies at Pompeii, be sure to ask exactly where they are at the entrance gate! There aren't many to be seen, and the city ruins are HUGE - be prepared for a lot of walking. The Hotel Diana was great - we would recommend it to anyone.

Hotel Diana Pompei was our favorite lodging experience during our 2 weeks in Europe. The staff was extremely friendly and very accommodating. They were most encouraging of my efforts to speak Italian and went out of their way to be sure that my family and I were comfortable. The room was decorated in an upbeat style, with a very tasteful use of bold colors. The continental breakfast was delicious, beginning with a cappuccino freshly made by the staff and brought to our table. We discovered that the hotel is family-owned and that several of the staff members are also family members. We got to meet Grandma, Dad, Daughter and Son, all delightful people! Although one day at the ruins was enough for me, I would have liked to have stayed longer just to enjoy the hotel. Oh, yes, there's also a beautiful yard/garden/patio with orange trees, tables, flowers and fresh fruit. As "icing on the cake" the Hotel Diana Pompei is located just 50 meters from the train station, on a small, side street.

Hotel Diana is a little gem in a wonderfully central place to stay in the region. Very close to the mainline Pompeii Station (5 mins max) and a 15 minute walk to one of the two Circumvesuviana stations. (Pompei Sanctuari) and maybe 30 minutes from the other station at Pompeii Scavi next to one of the entrances to the ruins. It's worth mentioing that the stations are all on different lines. The Hotel is beautifully appointed for a small hotel - very clean. The rooms are small, but adequate and very well furnished. Our bathroom was well equipped (modern) with a shower (no bath) but this was fine for us. Breakfast was very good with cerials, fresh rolls and croissants, butter, jams and fruit picked from the garden (an optional place to have breakfast) Coffee with an option for Cappucino served or tea and fruit juice. Best of all were the staff. Amongst the most attentive and friendly I have encountered in many years of travel with good English and a desire to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. It's no wonder this hotel gets such high marks - I would not hesitate to chose this hotel again if in area. It is B&B but there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. Only possible negative is that there was no lift but they are looking into this. They do help with bags.

We found the staff very helpful in particular the assistance of translation of English to Italian. They where also very helpful on our last day in picking up our laundry giving us a full day out. This was, without a doubt, one of the best values for money we've found in Western Europe and particularly in Italy. The staff is absolutely top-notch, from personally directing us to move our car from street parking to the hotel lot, to providing discounted entry, to the archaeological site, to helpful restaurant information. They always had smiles on their faces and were very professional and competent. While the rooms are sparse and the bed not the most comfortable, everything was in working order and the bed was adequate, and bathroom fine. When we missed breakfast, one was offered to us as we passed by the front desk on our way out. And we got water and sodas from the front desk for a nominal fee. All this for less than 100 Euros/night! Would recommend to anyone and would definitely stay there again. Highly recommend "La Situla" for dinner nearby.

I had a welcoming personal email from the hotel as soon as I booked through the Venere.com website - reassuring that my booking was successful and that our late arrival was no problem. Hotel staff were very friendly - and helpful with restaurant suggestions and bus/train connections. The room and bathroom were nice and clean - decent size, quite colourful. Breakfast was the standard minimal breakfast you will find in Italian hotels - it was average, but sufficient - it is a shame the breakfast room is in the basement - as they do have a cute little garden with orange trees which would be a nicer location. The hotel is located less than 5 minutes walk from the main Pompeii station (there are two) - despite this I can only remember hearing one or two trains passing through during our 2 night stay so noise wasn't an issue. It is maybe 10mins walk to the main square with churches, were you catch the bus to Mount Vesuvius, and from the square it was 10-15min walk to Pompeii ruins (do take plenty of water and a sun hat and go in the afternoon - it is less busy and also not so hot! But it may mean that they have run out of maps by then...so have your own guidebook with you!). It is possible to do the Mount and the ruins in one day, as we did. I would recommend this hotel. The proximity to the station was a big plus with all the heavy luggage we had to carry.

My sisters and I loved Hotel Diana! The hotel is, literally, 150 steps from the train station. The building was recently renovated, the rooms were clean, and the staff very accomodating. The breakfast was well stocked and delicious. The desk clerk gave us a map of the city, along with directions to the Pompei archaelogical site. We easily walked to the archaelogical site in 10 minutes. The desk clerk also recommended a nearby family run restaurant for dinner. I can't remember the name, but it was delicious! We appreciated the large portions after walking through the ruins for the entire afternoon! This hotel's excellent location, accomodating staff, and cleanliness should put it at the top of everyone's list!

The service personnel at this hotel were invariably cheerful, courteous and helpful. Great location -- less than 5 minutes walk from the main train station and a ten minute walk to the circumvesuviana. Although some train station neighborhoods can be a bit dodgy, this is not the case with the area around the Pompei train station. Very safe for a single woman. Easy walking distance to a very good variety of restaurants. And, of course, a 10 minute walk to the amphitheatre entrance to the ruins, or a 20 minute walk to the main entrance to the ruins. Excellent value for the money. One of the best hotels I've stayed at for cleanliness, courteousness and value. Good, but basic, breakfast -- coffe/tea, juice, yogurt, bread, pastry and cereals. I highly recommend this hotel. And the modern city of Pompei is an excellent base for touring not only the ruins of Pompeii but also Herculaneum, Oplonto, Sorrento and Naples -- all easily and cheaply accessible via train.

A very pleasant hotel with a charming, competent staff, and a lovely garden, although we didn't use it because it was cold and rainy. Our triple room was cramped, and when we asked for a larger room, they gave our daughter her own room at no extra cost (off season). Located just off a nice shopping street, five minutes from the main square and 30 minutes walk to the main entrance to the ruins. You can also catch a convenient bus at the square to take you to the ruins. Be aware that some construction work is going on next door.

It was a wonderful choice. We have three children and were also travelling with my aunt and uncle so we were six with a baby. We booked two triples and were there at the beginning of December. The family of the Diana hotel were so wonderful to us. Our baby got sick while we were there and they got a doctor to come see him and also brought us to a clinic and hospital to see a paediatrician. The mother helped us navigate the Italian medical system. They were so helpful and really made us feel at home and like family. We feel like we made wonderful new friends. They also had wonderful orange and tangerine trees in the back that were ripe with fruit. They let us pick some and our kids really enjoyed the treat.

Great hotel for a few nights with very friendly and helpful service. Far enough away from the main tourist drag, but not too far from the ruins. Reliable organisation of taxis, and info on buses etc.

We throroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly but professional, the outdoor garden area was fantastic & encouraged guests to mix if they wanted but still allowed a private drink if preferred. Highly recommend.

The location is excellent for going to the ruins, only a 5 minute walk. The hotel is lovely, clean and the staff very welcoming with excellent English skills. Breakfast is simple but filling, don't be put off by their weak coffee, it is a normal black coffee. The hotel has a little bar which serves coffees and non/alcoholic drinks for very reasonable prices. If going to the ruins get an audio guide from the tourist office before going in as there are none for hire once you have paid your entrance fee. Despite being a bit pricey it is worth it for the additional information, especially if it is raining and you don't want your guide book to get wet. If we were to go back to Pompei we would certainly use this hotel again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a handy and relatively inexpensive place to stay.

Very friendly, very helpful advice, the room we had was not very large, but clean and adequate for the stay (4 days). The hotel's location is handy for public transport.I cannot say there are great views as it is located in a heavily built up area, but Campania itself is a very densely packed region and I would prefer to stay here rather than in Naples for instance. If you are going to Pompei or the Campania in general, this hotel has to be top of the list.

Hotel Diana - The Jewel of Pompei! From the moment my husband and I stepped inside we felt genuinely welcome. The front desk personnel, Sonya and Alexandro, were especially friendly and helpful in their dining recommendations. One of the best experiences in my travels across Italy!

Sehr freundliches, hilfsbereites Personal, geräumige liebenswert eingerichtete Zimmer.

We are a family of 6: 4 adults, 2 teens and two under 10s. We wanted a resonably priced but resonably comfortable hotel with breakfast included, for a brief visit to Pompei. Diana fitted the bill completely. Staff were excellent, incredibly helpful in all respects: they recommended an excellent restaurant within walking distance of the hotel and gave good advice as to what to visit and when to avoid the crowds and the heat. The double room was smallish and its en suite cozy to say the least, but the quad (double plus bunks) was an excellent size, as was its en suite. The rooms were spotless and the air conditioning wellcome

An excellent hotel, close enough to the town centre but far enough out to be quiet. Exemplary service. If you go to Pompeii, make sure you take the elevator to the top of the church bell tower. Magnificent view of the ruins and Vesuvio. Morning is best as the sun will be behind you

The Hotel said it was only 50 metres from the station and it was if you got on the correct (ie mainline) train line at Naples - but there are two stations in Pompeii. The other one (on the Circumvesuvio line) is over a kilometre away. This was not (in retrospect!) a major drama - just tiresome for a family of five after a flight from London and the catching of one wrong train (there being two stations for Pomeii one for the town and one for the ruins). I must read the guide book more closely before starting out next time! However, any discomfort was soon removed by the gracious and warm and friendly welcome we received from the manager on duty and the (very)clean and modern rooms to which we were shown (which had good airconditioning). This is a hotel in a town so no views from rooms but there is a very nice garden with orange trees in which it was very enjoyable to relax, out of the tourist hustle and bustle, with a beer after a busy day. All the staff were friendly and recommendations about nearby restaurants were accurate and helpful. The ruins are within walking distance. Breakfast is the usual Italian fare (but no meat/cheese) but made much better with a 'real' coffee (ie espresso, latte or cappuccino) which the staff were happy to make and did not cost much. The hotel was an excellent base from which to explore the ruins and nearby attractions like Vesuvius and Paestum. Highly recommended.

Small, pleasant hotel very near the train station and a short walk to main Pompei and the ruins. Very helpful and friendly staff. Room was on the small size but perfectly adequate with air conditioning. Road hotel is on is a little rough and the building nextdoor had scaffolding on it which did not add to the appearance of Hotel Diana - but this hardly matters. Breakfast was limited to croissants, rolls and fruit - but the croissants are huge!

Great location, get off the train and you can see the sign. Perfect for those not wanting to lug around suitcases looking for a hotel. The hotel was also very clean and the staff extremely friendly. The archaeological site is a bit of a walk, but it's nothing compared to the amount of walking you'll do inside the sight!

The staff at Diana Pompeii Hotel were terrific -- really welcoming and kind. They went the extra mile to recommend a place to eat when we arrived late at night and were so helpful with directions, etc. Note there is no elevator, so if you have difficulty with stairs this may not be the hotel for you. Otherwise, we highly recommend this very nice hotel. Its location is very close to the Trenitalia rail station (although you can't hear the trains from the hotel so no problem there) and about 3 blocks from the local train that takes you to Herculaneum/Sorrento/Salerno. Easy walking distance to the side entrance of Pompeii ruins, or get on the local train and ride one stop to the main entrance.

A day or 2 after booking a room for 4 persons, I requested a ground floor room via email as one of us was quite elderly. I never heard for sure if my request was honored but they did in fact give us 4 beds in a ground floor room which was actually designed for handicapped. Since it consisted of bunk beds and a queen bed it was cramped and I would have liked to know that this was the only possible arrangement as the bunk beds were difficult. Otherwise hotel & personel were very nice.

We enjoyed our stay and would strongly recommend this hotel to those who want to stay in Pompeii. The front desk staff was very helpful. If I were to do it over again though I would have stopped in Pompeii, checked the bags at the train station, saw the ruins, then continued on to stay on the Amalfi coast (coming from Rome). With that said the city of Pompeii is nice enough.

The decorations and appointments were gleamingly new, the room large. But what made the stay so nice was how well Laura took care of us. She pointed out where to get a slice of pizza on the way to the ruins. She sent us to an excellent nearby restaurant, helped clarify the local train choices (better than Rick Steves' book), and generally gave us the best overall hotel experience of our trip to Italy. Leaving very early, the desk clerk saw to our getting breakfast earlier than the posted hours. Our only regret was that we only stayed one night.
