Exposed beams This traditional, stone built, single storey border house, with exposed beams is located in one of the principal squares of a 200-year-old village. Situated in Liddesdale, an area of great historic interest and the turbulent centre of medieval Border rivalries. Newcastleton is half way between Carlisle and Hawick and provides a good base for exploring the surrounding hills and forest. Also being within easy reach of many attractive Border towns, such as Kelso, Melrose, Jedburgh and Dumfries. Fishing, golf, hiking, horse riding and off road cycling in the forests (www.7stanes.gov.uk), are all available in the neighbourhood, with a wide range of water sports and other outdoor activities at Kielder reservoir (20 miles away), Europe's largest man-made lake.
