Sleeps: 8
Bedrooms: 5

Occupying a delightful elevated position above Loch Sween, Ashfield Old School House dates from 1875, and combines the ambience of a Victorian school house with quality modern conveniences. Wood-panelling and a log-burning stove lend it a cosy feel, whilst light and airy rooms, coupled with a first-floor entertainments room, ensure a comfortable, leisurely stay. Detached, along a quiet, single-track road, it offers easy access to the delights of this region. The loch's mild climate, warmed by the Gulf Stream, makes it popular for water sports, fishing and lakeside walks, with a golden sandy beach just a short distance away for swimming and bathing. For a memorable experience, try crab-hunting along the foreshore, just 100metres away, or climb the hill to the rear of the property for glorious west coast sunsets. A rich archaeological region, there are numerous stone circles and cairns to be found on the peninsula, as well as castle, forts and ancient chapels, steeped in legend and myth. Magical trips out to explore the islands of Jura, Islay and Gigha are not to be missed; each displays its own charm and character, and offers a wealth of history and wildlife. Oban is accessible for day trips, and aside from being the gateway to Mull, has a Sea Life Centre and Rare Breeds Farm Park for all the family to enjoy. After much sightseeing and island hopping, what better way to round off the evening than with a barbecue in the enclosed garden, where the children can play happily while the adults indulge in a glass or two of wine from the comfort of the new conservatory. Alternatively, let someone else do the cooking, and dine out in style at one of the local seafood restaurants, including the Crinan Hotel and the Tayvallich Inn.
