Sleeps: 8
Bedrooms: 5

Set in a beautifully secluded spot on Loch Etive, this comfortable, traditional house enjoys its own large enclosed garden with a fenced slipway to the water (slipway suitable for small vessels only, no vehicular access). Owned by the same family for over 100 years, this comfortable house is full of character and offers a spacious living room with an open fire and a large farmhouse kitchen with an Aga. The house has stunning views of Ben Cruachan and Ben Duirinnis rises up from behind the house. The hills and the water make this area a paradise for walkers and anglers. Outdoors enthusiasts will enjoy exploring woodland glens where eagles soar and red deer roam. Ivy clad castles dot the landscape as a reminder of the area's turbulent past. The coastal castles of Dunstaffnage and Barcaldine provide some of the finest examples, the former standing on the mythical site of Dalriada, the original kingdom of the Scots. Both castles are within 20 minutes of the house. Only 30 minutes away is the bustling town of Oban - the gateway to the islands. It is possible to take day trips to visit Mull, the beautiful holy island of Iona or to see the magnificent Fingal's Cave on Staffa. Oban also boasts a modern day visitor centre, an excellent distillery and some fine restaurants. Each summer the town comes alive with a host of festivals, attracting bagpipers, highland dancers and traditional musicians and singers from all over the world. For a relaxing day out there are cruises along Loch Etive, gardens ablaze with rhododendrons and the ancient Ardchattan Priory to discover. The Rare Breeds Park, near Oban, the Sea Life Centre (8 miles), Inverary Castle and the Argyll Wildlife Park (30 miles) are great for families. Ben Durinnis House provides a quiet and secluded spot from which to enjoy the solitude and the beauty of the West Highlands. This is a superb area for outdoor enthusiasts and there are many deserted bays and beaches to be discovered further up Loch Etive that make for excellent picnic sites. A large leisure centre, swimming-pool, tennis, golf, cycle hire and scuba diving can all be accessed in Oban. There are also great restaurants and pubs to be found all over the area. Pub 9 miles.
