How Wood Cottage is a beautiful Grade II thatched cottage located in the heart of Elmstone, near Canterbury. Adjacent to the cottage is How Wood Lodge, which is home to the owner, who will be on hand to help or assist if required. Built in the 16th century this historic building of Kent is full of character and charm. Guests can enjoy a comfortable living room with an open fire and French doors which lead to the garden. Relax in the study with original stone floors, open fire, a wide selection of books, vinyl records and CDs, where you can plan the day ahead with a glass of wine. The countryside kitchen is well-equipped with a Rangemaster and several other amenities. Upstairs are two bedrooms, both bursting with character and a compact bathroom. One of How Wood Cottage’s many highlights is the landscaped gardens which includes two ponds, a river and access to unspoilt woodland. Overall guests can enjoy 3-acres of land surrounded by fruit orchards with several seating areas, tables and sun beds in the summer. The village of Preston-next-Wingham is a mile away and there are walks through the orchards to join the Saxon Shore Way. Canterbury is a 20-minute drive, where you can explore the cobbled streets and boutique shops, or visit the famous Canterbury Cathedral and walk along the historic city walls. Whitstable, famous for its seafood and oysters, and Dover for day trips to France are easily accessible. Wingham Wildlife Park and Howlett Zoo are both close by and are ideal for family days out.
