Set in the heart of this attractive conservation village, at the foot of the Quantock Hills, these three unique self contained, listed properties (The Garden Wing EKL, Stable Cottage EKY, and The Housekeepers Quarters EKZ) comprise an old coach house, former housekeeper's quarters and part of the main 17th-century house, all opening onto the private courtyard. Now the owner's home, it was in the main house, facing Stowey brook, where the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, author of Rime of the Ancient Mariner, stayed to enjoy the peace and seclusion. This inspiring, quiet atmosphere still prevails in these carefully restored properties, which are all comfortably furnished to make for a relaxing stay. High red sandstone walls surround an acre of delightful garden open to guests, ensuring privacy and seclusion amid the well-tended lawns and established flower beds. Nether Stowey is home to Coleridge's abode, now a National Trust maintained house, and also has strong associations with the poet William Wordsworth. Good walking can be enjoyed over the Quantock Hills (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), as well as in the Exmoor National Park, just a short drive away. Within easy driving distance are Minehead, with its many attractions, Blue Anchor Bay, the delightful Dunster Castle and Cleeve Abbey. To the north is Weston-super-Mare, and to the east, Taunton, with its good museum on the remains of an ancient castle where Judge Jeffreys held the Bloody Assizes. Three village pubs and a bistro all within walking distance. The Stable Cottage retains a wealth of exposed ceiling timbers and stonework from the original stables, making it a charming property with an air of peace and tranquillity.
