Nestling in the pretty village of Worth Matravers on the picturesque Isle of Purbeck, this spacious four-bedroomed detached stone cottage has its own raised lawned garden offering glimpses over fields towards the sea. Tastefully modernised by the present owners, it offers very comfortable accommodation whilst retaining much of its character, with wood-burning stoves, beams, stripped wooden and quarry-tiled floors, as well as a country-style kitchen complete with cosy Rayburn. Worth Cottage makes an ideal base for touring both the coast and countryside of the beautiful Purbeck region of Dorset. The popular seaside town of Swanage, with its ornate town hall, lies 3½ miles away, where a sandy beach offers swimming and sailing, and a range of shops, restaurants and inns beckon visitors inside. The surrounding area boasts further excellent beaches and walking terrain, including the National Trust owned Studland beach, and the countryside here is a haven for peaceful strolls amid the local flora and fauna. The pretty Dorset village of Corfe Castle, with its tearooms, gift shops and pubs is close by, as is the town of Wareham, where boats can be hired. Durlston Country Park and Swanage Steam Railway make for further memorable days out. The 500-acre NT island of Brownsea is a mere 25-minute ferry ride from the town of Poole. Famed for its red squirrels, wading birds and other wildlife it is a must for those who enjoy the outdoor life. The island also boasts fine beaches, heath and woodland . The scout movement was formed here when Lord Baden-Powell first lead a camping expedition in 1907 and now the scouts are the only people allowed to camp on the island. The town of Poole itself is well worth a visit, with its old quarter situated by the quayside home to many historic buildings within its 15-acre site, including the old Custom House, Scalpen's Court and Guildhall. The Waterfront Museum, which traces the development of Poole over the centuries, features displays of local ceramics and tiles and a rare Iron Age log boat. Craft centre adjacent, pub 100 yards.
