The variety of scenery, wealth of historic attractions and selection of way-marked paths, makes this area excellent walking country. The hamlet of Stowe, dating back to the 5th century is a mile or so distant from Clearwell with its famous caves and the historic village of St Briavels, with its ancient moated Castle. Tintern, renowned for its impressive Abbey, the cathedral cities of Gloucester and Hereford, the Cotswolds, Malvern and Welsh Hills are all with easy driving distance. Lydney, 6 miles, Monmouth, 8 miles, Chepstow, 10 miles, Ross-on-Wye, 15 miles. Several golf courses. Shops 3 miles, pub 11/4 miles.
