The house has been cleverly designed so that the living areas are on the first floor in order to take full advantage of these views, and Ashcroft offers comfortable accommodation ideal for family gatherings. A coastal walk is 5 minutes away, and in less than 10 minutes the centre of bustling Cowes can be reached, steeped in maritime history and often referred to as the 'sailing capital of the world'. The town itself is brimming with shops, taverns and restaurants, many of which are on the water's edge, perfect for observing the ever changing scenery. A floating bridge offers a link to East Cowes where there is a ferry terminal from and to Southampton. Also this is where the beautiful and ornate Osborne House is situated. Built as a holiday retreat for Queen Victoria and her family in 1845 it makes an interesting day out, and has relaxing gardens and rare trees. There are many year round attractions on the island, suitable for all - bird and animal parks, seasonal festivals, historic houses and gardens, a castle, hand made pottery and glass, a pearl factory, wax works, a zoo and a wealth of natural features can be found.
