Fort Royal Hotel Rathmullen

The Fort Royal Hotel is located just outside the village of Rathmullen on the shores of Lough Swilly in North Donegal. Nestled in 18 acres of trees, and gardens you will understand why so many guests return when you enter the gates.

The town of Rathmullan is steeped in Irish history, it was here that the Montgomery Family laid the original foundations for what is now the Fort Royal Hotel. The Hotel has belonged to the same family since it opened in 1948, but even though the decor has changed over the years, the hospitality shown to all our guests has not. Fort Royal is also renowned for its award winning cuisine (2 AA rosettes for food), friendly regular staff, comfortable bedrooms and lounges, and a very special home-from-home atmosphere. It is the perfect place to escape to for peace and tranquility, or as a base to explore the fascinating county of Donegal. A lot of our guests come to Fort Royal to do nothing at all, reading a good book by the fire in the lounge, or a gentle stroll on the beach are about as active as they get. For the more energetic however, there are the private 9 hole pitch and putt course and the hard tennis court both overlooking the beach.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Reservations must be cancelled 6 days in advance of your arrival date. In the event of a no show or a cancellation in breach of this policy, the cost of the entire reservation will be charged. The cancellation policy may vary per room type; please check the room description as well. COMMENTS: Payment for the first night will be charged to your credit card at time of booking. If booking is cancelled 6 days or more before date of stay, this charge will be refunded. We accept both Euros and gbp. Our child rate is only applicable for double rooms if sharing with 2 adults. Non- smoking rooms and cots on request.

• Giants Causeway(120 km)- Famous coastline with its 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns. Often called the 'Eighth Wonder of the World'. One of Ireland's top tourist attractions. As it is almost a 2 hour drive, it is worth visiting Bushmills Distillery in the area.
• Newmills, Letterkenny(30 km)- Step back in time with a visit to one of Donegal's oldest mills situated in the banks of the River Swilly just outisde Letterkenny. Exhibition in visitor's centre. Guided tours available.
• The Workhouse(45 km)- Part of the original workhouse during the time of the Great Famine in 1845 and exhibition recalling life inside and outside during this time. Audio-visual presentation, coffee shop
• Glenveagh National Park(50 km)- 14,000 acres of mountains, bogs lakes, glens and woodlands with a herd of red deer. A Scottish style castle is surrounded by luxuriant gardens. Visitors centre has displays, audio-visual show and restaurant
