Nestling The South Downs, this 1765 Coaching Inn combines 2-rosette cuisine, award-winning wine lists & superior rooms. Family owned and run, the White Horse food wine and rooms have been planned with comfort and relaxation in mind.
Whether you are staying for your holiday, a short break or business trip, your Wedding or other special occasion ... or simply to walk the magnificent South Downs (perhaps with your dog), we want your stay to be relaxing and personal, taking in the atmosphere of the beautiful Sussex countryside and the Chilgrove Valley. Relaxation features include massage*, two large open fires, cd facilities in your room, and bicycle storage. The White Horse has many years experience of providing good food and wine. In the Chilgrove restaurant, the AA 2 rosette menu features organic, local and seasonal specialities including partridge, lobster and Seabass. The bar offers similar food, again of high quality, in less formal surroundings. For the past 18 years, the Inn has earned the prestigious Wine Spectator Quality of Excellence Award (reflecting its two wine lists of over 600 labels). Each of the eight double/twin/single bedrooms have been built to reflect today's standards. Tucked behind the main building, they have their own entrances, firm super-king sized beds, CD facilities, wooden floors, rugs, central heating, TV, direct dial phone, tea/coffee making facilities and more. Five have powerful showers, three have baths (with shower facilities). The deluxe continental breakfast hamper is served to your room, (in bed if you wish) or in the garden, weather permitting. For the past three years (since the rooms were opened) they have been awarded 4 red diamonds by the AA (reflecting the top 10% of B&B accommodation inspected). We hope to provide you with a relaxing experience you will savour.
Please note:
1) The Bar and Restaurant are closed on Sunday evening and all day Monday - except by arrangement for private parties (the accommodation is open seven days a week.
2) The bar and restaurant are closed between 3pm and 6pm. You will receive a confirmation letter from us (as well as from the booking agent) following your booking. If you wish to arrive between these times, please call us before 12 noon on the day of your arrival and we will leave a key for you to access your room.
3) The Chilgrove White Horse is entirely non-smoking. *Reflexology, aromatherapy or sports massage can be arranged by appointment and availability.

• Cycling, hiking, shooting, fishing, weddings(2 km)- At the foot of the Downs - and in the heart of Sussex countryside - the Inn is ideally positioned for off-road cycling or licensed pheasant shooting and fishing. Alternatively, your own special celebration can be catered for.• Horse racing and Polo(6 km)- Enjoy 'Glorious Goodwood' and other Goodwood race meetings throughout the year or watch the polo at Cowdray Park in Midhurst (around 12km from the Inn).
• West Dean Gardens and College(6 km)- Walk through the gardens all year round, or visit The Chilli, Tomoto or Apple Festivals. Participate in courses at West Dean College involving glass, gardens, sculpture, woodworking and many more topics.
• Chichester and Country Houses(8 km)- Chichester is a hub of activity all year round: The Chichester Festival Theatre and Cathredral are just a few activities to enjoy. Alternatively, Goodwood, Parham, Upark, Petworth and Stansted Houses are all near by.
Directions:
From London/the north: Take the a3 to Petersfield turning off on to the b2146, to South Harting. On entering South Harting turn right. Approx half a mile later, turn left on to the b2141 signposted to Chilgrove & Chichester. Look out for the village sign of Chilgrove (at least 4 miles later). The White Horse Inn is approx 100 yards on the left. From East or West: Take the A27 to Chichester, go north through Chichester on the ring road. Take the A286 towards Lavant & Midhurst. Go through Lavant and approx half a mile later take the B2141 signposted Chilgrove/Petersfield. The White Horse Inn can be found approx 5miles on the right.distid=1 propertyid=217555
