• Beamish: The North of England Open Air Museum(22 km)- Welcome to Beamish, The North of England Open Air Museum, where the past comes to life. Beamish is unique. We're no ordinary museum but a living, working experience of life as it was in the Great North in the early 1800s and 1900s.
• Timothy Hackworth Victorian & Railway Museum(6 km)- Not just a museum, you can experience first hand and with actual exhibits from the time, the revolution of transport dating from the early 1800's and the part that Hackworth and the people of Shildon played in it.
• Binchester Roman Fort(8 km)- Binchester, once the largest Roman fort in County Durham, has a rich, exciting history. Dating from AD79, it was one of a network of forts along Dere Street, the main Roman supply route between York and the Firth of Forth.
• Auckland Castle(8 km)- Auckland Castle is the home of the Bishop of Durham, and has been for the past 800 years. 10 miles from Durham, the heart of the Diocese, the castle has been extended every 200 years since the original banqueting hall was built in the 12th Century.

Whitworth Hall Country Park Hotel is easily accessible from the a1. Rail services are available in Durham and Darlington and domestic and international flights serve Teesside and Newcastle airports. From the A1 Motorway: At junction 61 take the A688 'Spennymoor'. After joining it, follow A688 'Spennymoor' over 4 roundabouts. At the 5th roundabout, take the 4th exit, turn right towards 'Spennymoor Town Centre'. At the next major roundabout turn left, first exit, 'A688 Bishop Auckland/Middlestone moor'. After a mile turn right at the traffic lights, following brown signs for 'Whitworth Hall Hotel' which is on the right after 1.5 miles. From Durham: From the A690 towards Crook take the first left after Brancepeth Village 'Spennymoor/Page Bank', following brown signs for 'Whitworth Hall Hotel' which is on the left after 2 miles. There is ample free car parking on site.
