• Newcastle(15 km)- Wander down to the transformed waterfront, the Quaysid The Gateshead Millennium Bridge, a work of art in itself, arches across the Tyne to link the City to Gateshead Quays and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
• Blue Reef Aquarium(2 km)- Blue Reef Aquarium is a great visit whatever the weather. Be amazed by the local marine species to hundreds of tropical species in the gigantic ocean display complete with underwater tunnel. New for 2005 is our fascinating Otter display.
• Hadrians Wall(25 km)- Today, parts of Hadrian's Wall are still visible; the line of it stretching from Wallsend in the east to Bowness-on-Solway in the west, and the fortifications continuing down the west coast to Ravenglass.
• Alnwick Castle & Gardens(50 km)- A medieval castle with stunning State Rooms which contain fine furniture and paintings. A beautiful public space accessible to everyone. A garden which is a place of contemplation, a place of fun, a place of inspiration and education.

Directions:

By car: From the a1 follow signs for the a19 (Tyne Tunnel). Then take the a1058 (East) which takes you directly to the beautiful coastline of Whitley Bay & Tynemouth. The a193 will bring you right to the York House Hotel & Apartments. By rail: Whitley Bay is served by an excellent local Metro train system that gives good access to all major areas of North Tyneside and to the wider region including Newcastle, Gateshead & Sunderland. The Metro links directly to Newcastle Central Station allowing easy access to the main east coast rail network linking Edinburgh to London. By air: Newcastle International Airport is only 30 minutes drive by car & is also connected to the Metro train system.
