Nestling beside the West Dart River, in 60 acres of private grounds at the very heart of the Dartmoor National Park, the hotel is reminiscent of a bygone age of opulence with the added extravagance of today's little luxuries.

Built in 1794 as a coaching inn at the opening of the trans-moor turnpike, the property was originally called 'The Saracen's Head'. It only gained its present name in the early 1900s when the modern road was completed. The comfortable lounges, with log fires and leather armchairs, are the ideal place to relax after a day on the moor. The hotel has acquired a deserved reputation for excellence in the conference and business meeting sector primarily because of the care we take in tailoring all arrangements to individual clients' requirements. The stunning Fountain Room enjoys considerable natural daylight with 5 sets of patio doors opening onto private gardens with views of the moor beyond - a perfect combination of functionality and tranquility. With its innovative design, this is a fairly recent addition to the hotel and is ideal for weddings, private functions and conferences/meetings. The main conference room can comfortably able to accommodate 150 delegates theatre style. Syndicate facilities are available in the Music Room and Georgian Room. The Georgian is a magnificent oak-panelled room with ornate hand painted plasterwork and is also perfect for private dinner parties.
