The Balmacara Hotel, on the 'Road to the Isles', or as we say nowadays the a87, is less than 10 minutes from the Isle of Skye. It's actually possible to visit the outer islands of Lewis, Harris or Uist in a single day using the Balmacara hotel as your base, or simply pop across to the island of Rassay. Its magnificent scenery is dominated by the extinct volcano, Dun Caan.
