In its several centuries of existence, this hotel has been a coaching inn, a farmhouse, and since 1968, a privately owned hotel.

It is located off the A5 on the outskirts of the city of Bangor, in a region of outstanding natural beauty. It has the mountains, lakes and forests of Snowdonia National Park, as well as Gwynedd's dramatic coastline on its doorstep. Eleven en suite bedrooms feature digital TVs and free wireless internet.

From Mid and South Wales Stay on the A470 from Mid or South Wales through Dolgellau. The A470 changes into the A487 before Porthmadog. Stay on the A487 through Caernarfon, until you reach the outskirts of Bangor. Leave the A487 after the Felinheli bypass, joining the A55 at junction 9. Continue along the A55 until junction 11, leave the A55 at this exit and head along the A5 (formerly the A5122) towards Bangor. Stay on this road until you reach the roundabout near Penrhyn Castle. Turn right at the roundabout, with penrhyn Castle entrance to your left. Continue down the hill until you see signs for Abbeyfield hotel approximately half a mile further on. From England, Scotland and the Continent (Option 1) If you are coming from Scotland, turn off the southbound M6 towards the westbound M56. If you are coming from the south of England or the Continent, then turn off the northbound M6 towards the westbound M56. Stay on the westbound M56 until it terminates. From here head for the A55 expressway. Stay on the A55 expressway along the North Wales coast. The first exit for Bangor is the A5 exit. Leave the expressway at this exit and head for the A5 (formerly the A5122) in the Bangor and Penrhyn Castle direction. Take a right turn at the first roundabout and you will see the signs for Abbeyfield Hotel on your left approximately half a mile further on. (*Option 2) After coming out of Birmingham, stay on the northbound M6 until you reach the M54 exit. Stay on the westbound M54 until it terminates. From here head for the A5. Stay on the winding roads of the A5 through the Snowdonia mountains until you reach the A5/A55 roundabout. At the roundabout carry straight on the A5 (formerly the A5122) towards Bangor. Stay on this road until you reach the roundabout near Penrhyn Castle. Turn right at the roundabout, with penrhyn Castle entrance to your left.Continue down the hill until you see signs for Abbeyfield hotel approximately half a mile further on. *Option 2 is not recommended for travellers from the North of England or Scotland. The condition of the A5 is poor in some places, and can be slow during the high season and other busy periods.
