Queens House, formerly a 17th Century Coaching Inn, is situated opposite St. Mary's Church in the heart of Bures. You can laze in our pretty walled garden or take one of the many Stour Valley walks.

Bures lies on either side of the River Stour, which forms the boarder between Suffolk and Essex. You will be ideally situated for exploring nearby towns of Bury St Edmund's, Long Melford, Colchester, Lavenham and Sudbury. The house has large comfortable rooms, the bar has a large inglenook fireplace giving you a warm welcome on chilly evenings.

• Stour valley(0 km)- The stour valley is known for its many walks and cycle rides. Constable and Gainsborough both painted here for much of their lives. Visit the Gainsborough museum in Sudbury to see the largest selection of Gainsboroughs paintings in the world.
• Kentwell Hall(12 km)- A romantic, moated, mellow red brick Tudor Mansion, beautifully set in Long Melford. Rare breeds, Heavy Horses and regular Award Winning Re-Creations of everyday Tudor life
• Cochester(14 km)- The oldest recorded town in England, a walk through Colchester is a walk through 2000 years of Britain's past, from the Romans, through to the Victorians. It has several museums and an award winning zoo.
• Lavenham(15 km)- Now a village Lavenham is an packed with beautiful timber framed houses, a relic of it's past as one of the richest towns in England. You can take a stroll or a guided walk to discover its beauty.

Directions:

Please use our map. From Colchester North Station, take the b1508 to Wormingford and Bures. Follow the road round to the right across the River Stour and then Queens House is facing you. Bures has a train station, which is served from Liverpool Street on the Ipswich/Colchester line, changing at Marks Tey for the Sudbury line. Bures is the second stop.
