The Moorland Hotel Plymouth

Picture of in

Whilst only 20 minutes from the heart of Plymouth, as its name suggests, the hotel sits on the quiet edge of the moor. It is situated on the southern slopes of Dartmoor National Park with views across the South Hams to the sea.

The hotel is the ideal centre for touring this beautiful and very interesting part of South Devon, including the beaches of the South Hams, beautiful Dartmoor, and the coastal city of Plymouth with all its maritime history. There is also a wealth of National Trust properties in close proximity and the Eden Project in Cornwall is a pleasant hours drive away. With panoramic views of Dartmoor around to Plymouth Sound and the sea, The Moorview Restaurant offers a la carte dining each evening and is also available for private functions. There is also a fine function suite available for weddings, business seminars or meetings & special occasions, which can hold up to 66 people. Unfortunately the hotel does not have a lift. The Moorland Hotel is also a Freehouse Pub so you can enjoy the comfort and informality that comes with being a village pub.

Directions:

We are situated on the western slopes of Dartmoor, near Plymouth. Tucked away from the hustle & bustle of the city, we can be found in the small hamlet of Wotter, Shaugh Prior. Follow the instructions below to find us: If travelling down the A38 Exeter to Plymouth Expressway, take the Lee Mill exit (not far after Ivybridge). Turn right at the first T junction and after the underpass, turn right again at the second. Then take the first left and follow the road through Cornwood and then on to Wotter. It's about 6 miles along this main road before you come to the hotel on your left. Watch out for sheep on the road! If coming from Cornwall: Go over the Tamar Bridge, along the A38. When you come to the flyover and roundabout at Marsh Mills, take the slip road exit marked Plympton and carry on towards Plympton. At a mini-roundabout take the left hand fork. At the immediate next roundabout, turn left over a stone bridge and continue along this road for about half a mile, past a convenience store on the right. Take the next right hand turn down a road called 'Crossways' (brown signed to Borringdon Hall). At the end of the road, turn left. You are now on the main road to Dartmoor. Keep going, and after a few miles, you will go over a cattle grid. At the cross roads, turn right (signposted to Wotter and the Moorland Hotel). After 800 years or so, the Moorland Hotel will appear on your right.
