Situated on the shores of Haweswater, the hotel is the only building in this quiet and secluded valley. The location lends itself to a peaceful and relaxing break, a theme continued inside the hotel itself and as such there are no televisions or telephones in the bedrooms. Everywhere you look are stunning views of the lake, hills and forests that make this such a beautiful and peaceful place. The hotel has always been a popular venue for walkers, nature lovers and people in search of tranquillity. The area is home to red squirrels, foxes, owls, red deer & badgers and is the only place in England where the golden eagle can be seen in the wild. 14 comfortable rooms and a self-contained apartment, most having lake or fell views. CANCELLATION POLICY: null COMMENTS: On public holidays and Valentine’s breaks, the hotel only operates on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. Dinner is charged at an additional cost to the room rate and reduced packages are available. Anyone found to be or believed to be smoking will have their reservation cancelled, without refund, and will be charged GBP 50 laundry and cleaning costs. Doors close at 23:00 each night. The hotel’s reception does not operate on a 24-hour basis. Vegetarians and those with special dietary needs and allergies can be accommodated by prior request. Please contact the hotel in advance in order to inform them of your requirements, either by using the comments field when making your reservation or by contacting the hotel directly, using the contact details supplied on your confirmation email. Special diets can only be catered for providing they are mentioned at the time of booking.

Local Attractions:

• Fishing(0 km)- A good head of wild brown trout, char, gwyniad and perch can be found in the lake. Bank fishing, fly only, is free to all holders of Environment Agency licence (no maggot or loose feeding is allowed)
• Golden Eagle in Haweswater(0 km)- Golden Eagle A pair had been nesting near Riggindale since 1969. The female died in May 2004, leaving the young male searching for a mate. He can be seen regularly in the warmer months & remains the only place in England where the golden eagle nests.
• Haweswater(0 km)- Walking - There are lots of walks in this area to suit everyone, from casual strolls along the side of the lake to strenous hikes up to the highest peaks.
• Mardale(2 km)- The flooded Mardale Valley. The inhabitants were moved out and the hamlet of Mardale was flooded to end their way of life forever.

Directions:

Once you're here it feels as if you've left the rest of the world behind...but it is very easy to get to! By Car: From the M6 (13 km / 8 miles): - Exit at junction 39 and take the northbound A6 to Shap. - Drive through Shap then take a left just after the Co-Op, following the signs to Bampton Grange. - Continue on to Haweswater. The hotel is along the country road next to the lake. From Ullswater: - Turn south between Pooley Bridge and Eamont Bridge. - Travel via Askham to Naddle Gate. Satellite Navigation: Please be aware that the nearest registered point is Naddle Gate or Naddle Bridge. This is next to Naddle Farm and the hotel is roughly 3.2 km (2 miles) along the road.
